Thanks to everyone who made our “Deep Fried Chicken Weekend” a success. We are blessed to have such great supporters. Many stood in rain Saturday to get chicken and we had a sell-out crowd on Sunday as well for our Sunday Chicken Lunch.
So proud of our members who not only get out days, nights and weekends to meet fire and EMS needs of our community but also worked this two-day fundraising event. ... See MoreSee Less

We would like to start by saying “Thank You” for the support at the curbside chicken sales today. We had a tremendous amount of support and appreciate all of you for that. We started at 2pm and sold out of 25 cases at 4:30pm. We realize the disappointment for those who waited and did not get chicken. We try to be planned and ready as a volunteer organization. Our first responsibility is to meeting the safety needs of our community. For our fundraising, we try to be cautious fronting money for things and having it left over to be wasted. With COVID this year, it has been extremely hard for departments and knowing that there were other local fundraising events with fire departments, we went extra cautious. The good news for GVFD is that it was all sold out and there is none wasted. We are sorry for those who did not get chicken and for those who waited to be turned away.
Updated information from GVFD: we tried to set this up for social distancing purposes and little contact with people therefore presale would not work since we would have to meet people to collect money and give tickets. We are evaluating this and what we can do in the future as restrictions are lifted for events in the future at the park.
As scheduled, we WILL have our fried chicken for Sunday Lunch on August 16 beginning at 11am at the fire department. It will be a Fried Chicken dinner (not pieces) that will consist of chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, slice bread, dessert, tea or coffee for $10.00 each. All dinners will be adult portions for $10 each - no variations or substitutions. ... See MoreSee Less
I got in line at 1:45 and was not told the chicken was all gone until 4:45, and at that point I was in line right at the playground equipment 😡....came home hungry and frustrated it would have been nice for them to tell us in line sooner😡...also would have been nice if they didn't allow people to get out of their cars while in line and get walk up service...guess it helps if you know the cops and bring them a water on your way out 🙄
We waited 2 hours never made it past the greenhouse and then people came by to tell us it was sold out. Very disappointed. Oh well hopefully next year will be better!
Selling the chicken is definitely a good thing, but to have it set up the way it was, was not the best idea especially when there is several baseball tournaments going on in the park and the players who were in between games left to go get food and refill their coolers with their parents were STUCK in the traffic were NOT allowed to come around the line to get back into the park for their games. They made the decision to get out of their cars with 1 parent and run or walk back into the park to make their game so they would not have to forfeit. Some were stuck in traffic as far back as the elementary school.
Well I was very disappointed I was there at 3:30 and was told chicken was sold out 😦
I set on Dogwood Ave. for almost a hour before being able to get to the park, the officer directing traffic from Dogwood was letting all of the traffic coming from Port turn into 20th St. and leaving the Grottoes side just setting there. When I got ready to make the turn into the park at 3:30 the police officer there turned around the car in front of me and the rest behind me around telling us they were out of chicken to turn around there. Very unorganized, hope if you decide to do this again it is organized alot better.
I'm glad it was sold out. I think Stuarts Draft did pre sale tickets.? That might be an option for ya'll next time?
Chicken was great!! Even though I waited 2 1/2 hours ...worth the wait! Thanks again
Mmmmmm! I can almost taste that secret recipe from here!
What a great problem to have! All food was sold and no waste! Hoping you all do it again this year!
Maybe we can have another one soon. Maybe presale so there is no waste or disappointment
Missed out on the chicken today. Hope you all have it again soon. Love ❤️ your chicken
Thats just wonderful to have the crowd and sell out that fast
I missed out today .but they m0ake awesome chicken and onion petals...
delicious. worth waiting for
Maybe next time do on pre sale that way you know exactly what to cook and no waste.
Obviously a Huge hit! Perhaps a second one is in order in the next few weeks.... pre- orders required
How about presale for just Grottoes residents ? 😊
As someone's son my dad waited well before 1 o'clock! To only get like so many others told that there was nothing left! What the problem is that the grottoes cops decided that splitting it into two lanes was the best idea, which only allowed all the people in the back by pass to the front which left everyone who was in line first to be screwed over. #facts🤦♂️
Love in our community arrived! This unusual time has impacted our lives. Super Blessed by the LOVE!
Didn’t get any.... I’ll wait and get some another time.
With having 25 cases you all definitely planned for a good turn out !! That’s all you can do !!
Great! thankful you all had great success!!
Y'all Do A Great Job 🚒🚒
Thank you for all you all do for service to our community and the sacrifices you make for all of us!
Y’all should’ve had a limit of how many pieces people could get

2020 GVFD LAWN PARTY is CANCELLED due to COVID-19. We are saddened as this is the first time in the history of GVFD that we have not had an annual lawn party to support our fundraising efforts. We will miss the fun that the entire community has at our annual event. We do plan to do some other fundraising activities to help support the efforts and fundraising of our department. ... This saddens me but I understand. Bwater cancelled as well and gave some reasons that made sense. It's not always about what you want as much as about what makes sense and shame on Lil Gus's for allowing so many to congregate together. If there is an outbreak of COVID in and around Grottoes I'm certain if it didnt come from a protest it came from Gus's, but to each their own.
We can't close down the world forever.....I am sure our local fire departments count on the funds
from these events to keep them up and running to provide excellent care! Yes...I do know several folks that have recuperated from Covid and a couple that didn't!! Social distancing can be practiced every where we go!! I have the greatest respect for our emergency service people, I was with the squad for many years!! If folks are afraid to come out to the events....it is their right to stay home......no problem!!
It is not about me.... If you have had the virus or know someone who died with it you would want to do your part to protect others. Great job Grottoes 👏
So sad for all the departments that have to do this. There is so much cost associated with putting on a lawn party that if too many people decide to stay home, they won’t make near as much as usual & it’s easy to go in the hole.
Just have it. Disguise it as a protest?! we are all adults, we should be aware of the potential “risk” and make our own mind up as to rather we participate. I bet, you would have a great turnout?!
Good grief....they should have it...that is crazy!
Bad decision this is an outside event for goodness sakes. We have people marching shoulder to shoulder an you cant do an outside carnival. I say stop the madness and have a carnival
Just consider selling fried chicken. Do pre orders and I know you would sell out. You could bring to people's cars to eliminate a lot of contact and would probably get an extra tip for doing so.
What a shame! We have thousands of people marching in protest and that's fine but our entire country is shutting down all activities including outside activities. I understand these local fire departments dont want to be the cause of the virus to spread but it sucks the entire country is shutting down.
Why can’t you still have food and bands! People could bring lawn chairs and distance! So sad!
Not that I’m against it but there were SO many people at Gus’ the other night, like standing room only in a much smaller space. You would think with how wide open the space it something could work. Oh well 😕
I agree this makes no sense to me they're already opening the pools and they're having protest in the park so why don't do we do it ? Wow.
Safety Reminder from GVFD... Over the weekend, GVFD responded to three calls for water rescues locally. Please remember to be safe and alert when on the river! There are several spots with broken trees and branches between Grottoes and Lynnwood. Stay safe! ... See MoreSee Less
